Personal Protection Guidelines


Personal Device Security

  • Install Antivirus Software – use a reliable antivirus software program to scan and remove malware

  • Regular Updates – Keep your operating system, software, and antivirus up to date

  • Backup Data – Regularly back up any important files to an external drive or cloud storage

  • Two-Factor Authentication – Enable two-factor authentication for extra security

Password Protection

  • Create Strong Passwords – Use a mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.  Avoid common words or easily guessable information

  • Unique Passwords – Use different passwords for different accounts to minimize risk

Online Security

  • Use Secure Connections – Be sure websites use HTTPS, especially for transactions

  • Avoid Suspicious Links – Don’t click on links from untrusted sources

Reg E

  • What is Regulation E? - Regulation E is a regulation put forth by the Federal Reserve Board that outlines rules and procedures for electronic funds transfers (EFTs) and provides guidelines for issuers of electronic debit cards. The regulation is meant to provide banking customers who use electronic methods to transfer money protection from fraud losses

  • Business/Commercial and other Non-Consumer Clients are NOT covered by Regulation E

  • What is covered? – Fraudulent or unauthorized EFTs such as

    • Point of sale transfers

    • Automated Teller Machine transfers and transactions

    • Direct deposit or withdrawal of funds (ACH transactions)

    • Transfers initiated by telephone

    • Debit card transactions

  • What is not covered?

    • Checks

    • Check Guarantee or Authorization

    • Wire or Other Similar Transfers

    • Securities and Commodities Transfers

    • Automatic Transfers by Account Holding Institution

What action should be taken if a covered transaction is identified?  -  Contact Bank of Prairie Village immediately. Bankers will review the transaction and advise the next steps to recover the disputed transaction amount and to prevent additional transactions from occurring.

 

Online Banking Security

  • Never share your User ID, Passwords, or security codes with anyone

  • Do not use personal information as your User ID or password

  • Avoid using public Wi-Fi or public computers for online banking

Commercial Banking Security

  • Perform annual risk assessments and evaluations on all accounts

  • Create internal policies regarding internet usage

  • Ensure all computers are up to date with anti-virus protection software

Protect Your Cards

  • Use BKPV online banking to block card for extended periods of time when the card is not in use

  • Don’t write your PIN on your debit card or keep it in your wallet/purse

  • Be cautious and check for skimmers at card terminals

Monitor Your Accounts

  • Consistently monitor your accounts to look for any suspicious or fraudulent activity

  • If you are suspicious of fraudulent activity, report it immediately
